Embracing Courage: A Journey Beyond Fear

Fear is one of the most powerful emotions we experience. It warns us of potential threats, helps us stay alert, and—when understood properly—can even lead us to growth. But there’s an interesting paradox in how fear works: the moment we feel the most afraid is often the moment we’re actually safest.
When I first started making soap, I wasn’t thinking about launching a business. It began as a small hobby—a fun way to unwind and create something with my hands. But as I learned the craft and started sharing my soaps with family and friends, I began to wonder, “Could I really turn this into something more?”
That’s when fear showed up.
The fear of failing. The fear of wasting time or money. The fear of putting my work out there and hearing silence in return.
It’s funny how fear always gets the loudest right before we’re about to do something meaningful.
When Fear Peaks, Growth Begins
There’s a saying that’s stuck with me: “The point of maximum fear is the point of least danger” (Will Smith).
At first, it sounds backwards. But think about it—fear often hits hardest after you’ve done the preparation, after you’ve learned what you need to know, and just before you take action.
When I finally decided to create GMHB Handmade Soap Store and launch my first collection of handmade bar soaps, I was terrified. But I realized something important: that fear wasn’t a sign to stop—it was a sign that I was ready.
The danger wasn’t in moving forward. The danger was in staying still.
Turning Fear Into Fuel
Every handcrafted soap you see here at GMHB has a story behind it—of trial, error, patience, and persistence. There were batches that didn’t turn out right, formulas that needed tweaking, and many moments when I doubted myself.
But each time, I learned something new. Each time, I became more confident in the process. And each time, fear had a little less power.
That’s what “the point of maximum fear” really means—it’s the edge between who you are and who you’re becoming.
A Message for Anyone Starting Something New
Whether you’re launching a business, picking up a new skill, or simply trying to make a change in your life—remember this:If you’re scared, it probably means you’re on the right track.
Fear is not a stop sign; it’s a green light that says, “You’re about to grow.”
So take the leap. Start small. Trust your work. You might just discover that the thing you feared most wasn’t danger at all—it was opportunity waiting for you to begin.
Closing Thought
At GMHB, every bar of soap is handmade with care and courage—because the most beautiful things are created when we move through fear, not around it.
So, here’s to facing fear, chasing dreams, and creating something meaningful—one bar of soap at a time.
